Born Michael Christopher "Mike" Starr, he best known as the original bassist in Alice in Chains, with whom he played from the band's formation in 1987 until 1993. Alice in Chains enjoyed extensive success via record sales and radio play in the grunge rock movement of the early 1990s, the same era with famous grunge band NirvanaNirvana of Kurt Cubain.
